Nordic Architects Global Impacts The volume in the Nordic Architects series of publications that Arvinius+Orfeus is dedicating to Nordic architecture uses examples of Scandinavian architects to explore one of the key aspects of contemporary architecture - the global impact of urbanisation.

Climate change, global warming come up as key phrases in all current discussions about architecture and more because the consequences of this development are here for all to see and experience every single day. From “day zero” in Cape Town, the first city in the world that in a few weeks will be without any drinking water due to the prolonged drought in South Africa, to the sea levels rising much higher than predicted, to threaten coastal cities.
We are living in a period of history where the capacity of architects to come up with valid responses by constructing sustainable, inclusive buildings and cities is turning into a key factor of their success. For years now, Nordic architects have been showing particular sensitivity to these issues and stand out for their sustainable approach, setting the bar for their colleagues in other nations.
The volume called “Nordic Architects Global Impacts” edited by Kristoffer Lindhardt Weiss and published by Swedish house Arvinius+Orfeus, gives readers the opportunity to explore the modus operandi of more than 60 architecture firms from Scandinavia using original images of their iconic works and interviews with each of the firms represented.
It includes lots of names that we regularly publish on the pages of Floornature, which has always taken a keen interest in all forms of sustainability. They include Bjarke Ingels Group, 3XN, Snøhetta, Henning Larsen, COBE, Reiulf Ramstad, C.F. Møller, White Arkitekter, Dorte Mandrup, OOPEAA, Rudanko+Kankunnen and Winghårds, just to mention a few. All the works presented in the book - both built and in the design stage - are examples of how to minimise the global impact of architecture without sacrificing the beauty and harmony that has always distinguished the common idea of Nordic architecture, located in northern Europe or elsewhere on the planet.
