Foto Focus Biennial 2014 in Cincinnati, USA FotoFocus is a non-profit art organisation that celebrates photography as the communication medium of our time and its ubiquity in contemporary culture.

FotoFocus Biennale was launched in 2012 in Cincinnati, Ohio and the 2014 edition ended three weeks ago. The unifying theme of FotoFocus Biennial 2014 was “Photography in Dialogue” describing the dialogue between contemporary photography, its history, other media (such as film) and between collaborating artists.

FotoFocus Biennale is just one more event emphasising the increasingly manifest importance of photography in our culture and in contemporary communication. Because thanks to the Internet in particular, we “find ourselves transported to a place without geographic borders or time, while we are physically living somewhere else”, as Paolo Schianchi writes in his recently published book, “Architecture on the Web. A critical approach to communication”.

Apart from exhibiting photography in various venues in and around Cincinnati, FotoFocus Biennale 2014 also partnered with more than 50 local and regional organisations that participated in the initiative, expanding the programme to also include debates, film screenings and other performances. All of it aimed not only at promoting the art of photography but also at setting up a dialogue between contemporary photo-based art and the history of photography.
