Cantilever House by Zero Energy Design Lab
Indian architecture firm ZED Lab - an acronym for Zero Energy Design Laboratory - has specialised in creating zero-impact buildings since 2009. Cantilever House is the latest project to be completed by the firm, which is headed up by Sachin and Payal Rastogi and located in Raj Nagar, in the district of Ghaziabad. The villa, in all its luxury and opulence, presents an interesting blend of styles - almost a contemporary maximalism - and uses a range of expedients to minimise its energy consumption and environmental footprint.

BIG has constructed a building on 126th Street in Harlem, New York, with a façade made of interlocking blackened steel panels. The building’s curved shape has earned it the nickname “The Smile”.

Westbeat designed by Studioninedots: combining private residences with public space in Amsterdam
The Dutch architects of Studioninedots have completed construction of Westbeat, a sculptural residential building in Amsterdam’s Nieuw-West district. Westbeat stands out with a base composed of eighty-six spectacularly interwoven arches of different shapes and sizes, containing a 3250 square metre superspace designed for public use, a flexible structure in which to experiment with new forms of socialisation incorporating a number of pedestrian crossings through the building.

GARCIAGERMAN Arquitectos Comillas House in Cantabria, Spain
architect Jacobo García-Germán and his studio GARCIAGERMAN Arquitectos recently completed the restoration of the historic Comillas House in Comillas, in Spain’s autonomous community of Cantabria. The house was a baronial residence constructed in the late nineteenth century, when it belonged to Antonio Bona, the Italian master builder of El Capricho or Villa Quijano, an eclectic construction designed by Antoni Gaudí.

Envisage designs White Flower Hall, girls’ hostel for the Mann School in Alipur, New Delhi
The new girls’ hostel of the Mann School in Alipur, India, was recently completed. A sustainable complex designed to foster learning, as well as the interaction between students, for a comprehensive development of their personalities.
