Dumican Mosey’s SOMA Residence
Internationally exhibited artist Klari Reis appointed Californian architectural studio Dumican Mosey to design her own home, with an annexed studio and art gallery. As the name suggests, the restoration and refurbishment project is located in San Francisco’s rapidly growing SOMA district. When the architects first went to inspect the two-storey building, a former auto repair garage, it was "dark, rundown and pungent with grease"; now the SOMA Residence is a jewel set in among the façades of the neighbourhood, right next to the famous Financial District.

Paly Architects design a luxury residence above the sea in Livadia, Crete
At the western tip of the island of Crete, near the top of Cape Koutoulos, stands the latest new residence designed by Paly Architects. Pale sun-beaten rock gives way to a dry-stone wall rising up the cliff, where it becomes the solid base of a long, narrow house, a vacation paradise of peace and quiet where luxury is discrete, embracing the rustic style typical of the Greek islands.

Arbol: House in Akashi, Japan
In the urbanised setting of Akashi, on the coast of the Japanese island of Honshu, the house designed by Arbol grafts nature onto its closed, compact structure. The spaces designed by the young architectural studio Arbol fulfil the basic functions of sleeping, eating, and relaxing, while an anthropised form of nature occupies the spaces in between.

Costa Lima: astrologist’s house in Estoril, Portugal
The astrologist’s house in Estoril by Antònio Costa Lima is a successful synthesis of opposed forces: dynamism and stability, closing and opening, discovery and protection. A walkway spirals around the garden, gradually rising to end on the rooftop terrace.
