Revitalisation of Udine’s historic Piccolo Bar

Visual Display, Giorgio Di Bernardo’s creative design company, worked on a project in the designer’s own hometown, Udine, to bring new life to a venue offering typical Friulian conviviality. Piccolo Bar is a place for sampling the region’s famous wines and hams, paying tribute to the bar’s history and tradition.

Torre Fara, a specimen of Rationalist architecture expertly restored in Chiavari

The town of Chiavari, on the eastern Riviera of the region of Liguria in northwest Italy, is home to a sustainable contemporary restoration of a public works project dating back to the nineteen-thirties. Architect Enrico Pinna planned the building’s rebirth for a group of five entrepreneurs, with a dozen local companies performing the redevelopment work, including a new waterfront promenade as well as restoration of the former Colonia Fara area.

TEF Design’s Larkin Street Substation Expansion

TEF Design of San Francisco has completed an interesting urban infrastructure project: a 12,200 square metre building which is America’s first net-zero energy (NZE) electrical substation. The expansion on the historic 1962 substation building not only meets the operator’s practical requirements but brings new value to the community around it.

Various Associates and a blue and white Art High School in Shenzhen

The Chinese architecture firm Various Associates was commissioned with the design of an Art High School in Shenzhen. The School is focused on international arts programmes, affiliated with the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA). The new campus is the result of the transformation of several abandoned buildings along the river, in an urban village.

Wittman Estes, transformation of an apartment in Seattle

The US architecture firm Wittman Estes has designed the transformation of an apartment inside Lakeside West, a condominium complex originally built in 1961 by John Graham, who at the time had already created his iconic Seattle Space Needle. The intervention carried out by the Wittman Estes studio has adapted the residence to contemporary needs, with simple and functional spaces.
