Panzeri: family home in Canton Ticino

In the plan for this family home in Sorengo, near Lugano, Ticino architect Attilio Panzeri expresses the results of the studies begun by great 20th masters such as Louis Kahn and Le Corbusier which lead to a concept of architecture as reading the landscape. Structural materials such as concrete and glass submit to the decoration of wood and colour, while light reveals the geometry that regulates the forms of contemporary architecture.

Menis: Holy Redeemer church in Tenerife

Packed with symbolism relating to the natural world, Fernando Menis’s plan for the church of the Redeemer in Tenerife is a mountain with peaks and craters, earth broken up by telluric motions, a cavern with a spirit of its own. Architecture imitates landscape, with cement alluding to compact rock, cutting off the inside of the church from the outside world.

“Roca dels Moros” rock paintings visitors’ centre

Architects Prudenci Espanol Pons and José Ángel Hidalgo Arellano, finalists in the first international “Next Landmark” architecture contest organised by Floornature, presented their plans for a visitors’ centre for the “Roca dels Moros” rock paintings in El Cogul, Catalonia. The structure and materials of this partially underground construction are intended to minimise its impact on the landscape.
