Expo Gate shortlisted for the Mies Van Der Rohe Award

Expo Gate is a pavilion designed by Scandurra Studio as a place for getting together and chatting, intended to welcome visitors arriving at Expo 2015 “Feed the Planet: Energy for Life” and present the identity of the city of Milan.
Expo Gate’s location in the city centre, right across from Sforzesco Castle, qualifies it as a gateway between the city of Milan and the World’s Fair.
Expo Gate is composed of two steel and glass pavilions enclosing a central open space. The pavilions’ structure, light and transparent, is made up of modular elements that can bear flags, banners, images and graphics, to be replaced according to the calendar of events during Expo.

The pavilion is one of 420 projects shortlisted for the 2015 Mies Van Der Rohe Award, a European award presented every two years; the last award (2013) went to Harpa - Reykjavik Concert Hall & Conference Centre by Henning Larsen Architects in partnership with Batteríid architects and artist Olafur Eliasson.
