Floornaturelive and the Spanish pavilion at the 2014 Biennale in Venice
The Spanish pavilion at the 2014 Biennale, the 14th international architecture exhibition in Venice examines the concept of “Interior”. The exhibition pavilion curator is Iñaki Ábalos, and it explores interiors as the foundations of architecture.

Faithful to the “Fundamentals”, theme launched by the director of the Biennale of Venezia 2014, Rem Koolhaas, the Spanish pavilion in the Giardini focuses on a crucial theme of architecture: interiors.

With the help of a number of examples of Spanish architecture and references to modern history, like Coderch or even earlier architects such as Gaudì, curator Iñaki Ábalos explores his nation’s interiors.

In his own words, “(…) the interior speaks of space, and space is, by definition, the theme of architecture”.

Visitors to the pavilion are greeted by large images integrated into its space, where the contemporary and traditional architecture chosen for the Biennale is represented and accompanied by the architectural drawings. A multi-layered concept, focusing on the interior space and in particular on works that offer a combination of historical heritage, innovation and modernity. A clear reference to the increasingly pressing demands on the world of contemporary architecture to convert, regenerate and revive architectural heritage.
