Massimo Imparato for “Local Cultures in Global Settings”

“Local Cultures in Global Settings” is an international contest promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group and its associated Foundation and organised by UAE Modern, drawing attention to creative contributions arising out of the interaction between expressions of identity and universalistic culture. We talked about it with Massimo Imparato, who, with Monica Mazzolani, co-founded UAE Modern, the cultural hub presenting the series of events accompanying the competition.

The Zikawei Library by Wutopia Lab in Shanghai

The story of the Zikawei Library in Shanghai is a tale of intelligent reuse, as the building was originally designed as a bookstore by David Chipperfield Architects. Immediately after the completion of the façade and the structure, it remained empty. However, at the city's will and thanks to the intervention of the Wutopia Lab studio, it has recently become the iconic public library of the Zikawei district.

Art to narrate transformation, Carlo Stanga for LAND

Beyond words: leaving room for imagination, even when tackling extremely current and urgent topics, such as the ecological transition. This is precisely what the colourful drawings created by illustrator and architect Carlo Stanga deal with. While his works usually narrate cities with "WanderWorld", instead, he explored the new "urban landscapes".

digitalCHURCH, a church in Aachen reborn as a co-working space

A place of sharing par excellence has become a digitalCHURCH. Thanks to the initiative by Norbert Herrmanns from Landmarken AG, together with the digitalHUB Association, the city of Aachen in Germany has its first co-working space in the nave of the former St. Elisabeth’s Church. A very appealing space that honours the Church’s original meaning as a gathering space for the digital community.

Retro-futurism for X11, a toy store by TOMO Design

For some time now we have been seeing beautiful Chinese stores whose interior design is inspired by retro-futurism. The new X11 Toy Collection Store, a well-known toy brand, located in Xi'an in central China and designed by the TOMO Design studio, has been conceived as an airship, carrying young customers to another dimension.
