ENORME Studio for Mañana empieza Hoy The Spanish architecture studio ENORME created the backdrop for the first edition of Mañana empieza Hoy, an event dedicated to understanding and building the future that awaits us. The response of ENORME is colourful, sustainable and fosters debate.

In June, Madrid hosted the first edition of Mañana empieza Hoy (tomorrow begins today), organised by IFEMA - Madrid’s exhibition centre - and Barrabes.biz, with the unique institutional promotion of Enisa. The event is centred around the coming together of various social players to come up with solutions to the complex issues facing present-day humanity. In this first edition, it focused on three key challenges: wellness, sustainable growth and liveability.
Of course, in order to collect all the ideas and trends, an event like this needs a special backdrop. By the same token, the fundamental messages that this initiative intends to convey must also be considered. With all of this in mind, ENORME Studio proposed an open space that could spark the conversation about the problems of tomorrow and highlight the importance of innovation and creativity in future decisions.
The sustainability of the design played a key role in the process that ENORME Studio used to create this space. Here, the classic picnic table made from wood and with two side benches here seems to be the perfect spatial unit to spark an open conversation, A module that is as simple as it is sustainable, which the Madrid-based firm had already tested in a school. This is a basic solution for the spatial design, providing an open environment that fosters debate, also because sitting around a table for a serious conversation is such a familiar thing to do. The reinterpretation of the table as a unit, multiplied and stacked together, conveys the importance of innovation and creativity and in some way represents the event’s main concept: how to discover and dream of a new world with what we already know of this one.
The bright colours that ENORME chose for the graphic design build up the whole space and get across the values of the event, representing a rejuvenated optimism full of opportunity. The CUBE - designed by Intersection - is a scaffolding structure that contains the only technological element offered by the event - the interactive virtual reality stations. It hides these under a mantle of kilometres of rope. This rope doubles as a kind of screen for projections and once again underscores the connection between graphics and spatial design in relation to the nature of the event.
With the backdrop for Mañana empieza Hoy, ENORME Studio again confirms that you don’t need lots of glitz and complicated responses to get great results. The picnic table becomes a real design icon with this umpteenth initiative by the Spanish team, making it the undisputed star in the scene created in the Madrid exhibition centre.
