Dominique Perrault’s roof over Suzanne Lenglen Tennis Court at Stade Roland Garros in Paris

The new roof over Suzanne Lenglen Tennis Court at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, designed by architect Dominique Perrault and his studio, was unveiled during the French Open, the world’s most important tennis tournament held on a clay court. The “plissé”, as the roof was nicknamed right away, will allow tennis matches to go ahead even in rainy weather and at night, as well as making the court suitable for the boxing matches to be held during the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

MAD Architects: Architecture and landscape at the Quzhou Sports Park

In Quzhou, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, MAD Architects - headed up by architect Ma Yansong - has designed a stadium and other sports facilities that dissolve into the landscape. This is the vast Quzhou Sports Park, a park spread across an overall surface area of 570,000 square metres comprising both sports facilities - including a 30,000-seat stadium, a gymnasium for an audience of 10,000, a swimming pool, outdoor training grounds, and a service centre for athletes - and a science and technology museum, as well as other areas for children.

Lemoal Lemoal Architectes New facilities for the Garden Tennis Club in Cabourg

Parisian firm Lemoal Lemoal Architectes has designed the new changing rooms for the Garden Tennis Club in Cabourg. Though the project may be small in scale, it is significant in its interpretation of traditional construction techniques. The architects lent a contemporary look to the traditional half-timbered houses typical of the region. The design of the changing rooms is part of a wider renovation plan involving the entire sports facility, overseen largely by Lemoal Lemoal Architectes.

As part of the ZAC du Bon Lait which transformed the 20th-century working-class neighbourhood in the south of Lyon, Dietrich Untertrifaller and Tekhnê have designed the Alice Milliat Gym. The frustum-shaped roof and straw insulation are the strengths of the glulam structure.
