The 7th Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF) is starting in New York on 13 October 2015. This year's festival has moved from Tribeca to a new venue in Chelsea; opening night will be at the SVA Theatre and the remainder of the festival will be at Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas. This move will provide a larger venue on the back of its huge success in previous years.

The programme from 13 to 18 October includes 33 films from 17 countries, and it kicks off with the NY premiere of “The Infinite Happiness”, a kind of visual diary recounting the experience inhabiting “8 House” by BIG in Copenhagen, a contemporary housing experiment in the form of a “vertical village”.

Virtual realities will also be playing a major role, with the Azimyth Immersive Lounge where ADFF visitors can enjoy immersive experiences in the virtual world.
One of the other changes compared to the past is the “Conversations”. These chats with key names in the world of architecture, including Alejandro Zaera-Polo, Josephine Michau, Arviad Almagor to name just a few, are ticketed, not free, and the proceeds will go to the 14+Foundation (http://www.14plusfoundation.org/) to build schools in Africa.

So, all we can do now is wait a few days and then take a deep dive into the 15 unique programmes showcasing the festival tagline “Design Directs Everything”, to experience all the excitement of architecture through the visual medium of these films, and to reach out and engage with more and more of the general public that is increasingly attentive to our built environment.
