A look at the 21st edition of the International Garden Festival
This year’s International Garden Festival at Reford Gardens in Canada entitled Métissages - blending or crossbreeding - was somewhat out of the ordinary. The five design teams selected from among 200 submissions following an international call for applications were unable to travel to Grand-Métis in June. Still, the Festival team built their installations to make sure the event could go ahead as planned.

The Line, installation by REgroup
The Line is a temporary structure designed by REgroup architecture in rural, Northern California. The installation was designed for small events, from musical performances to weddings, and offers a new type of rural event space for the area. The minimal design is a direct result of a very tight budget and a strong desire to minimise its environmental impact.

Rotterdam by bike, from countryside to canals
The city of Rotterdam is known for its harbour and its architecture, especially from the post-war period and today’s famous icons, from the Erasmus Bridge to the station and the Markthal, to name but a few. But in no time at all, you can ride your bike out of the city, through the green countryside with its picturesque canals and farms.

ADHOC architectes, Your Place at the Table, installation in Montreal
The team from ADHOC architectes is behind the project called Your Place at the Table!, which you can visit in Montreal until October. The installation in Hydro-Quebec park was conceived to allow Montrealers to reappropriate this public space while respecting the regulations laid down by public health officials.

Opening of Manifesta 13 in Marseille
Opening later than initially scheduled, Manifesta 13 kicked off in Marseille on 28 August. The biennial event is taking place for the first time in France, as an embodiment of the initiative’s cross-disciplinary and multicultural ideals. A team of architects, urbanists, curators and art products explore the specific geographic and sociopolitical context of the French port city.

The Rotterdam-based Dutch art collective, Observatorium has created a temporary wooden architectural sculpture called Wandelgang/Colonnade in Chemnitz, Germany. Their work is part of the Gegenwarten/Presences festival celebrating art in the public urban space and launching a message of renewal.
