Carlos Ferrater

A native of Barcelona, Carlos Ferrater (1944) has worked mainly in Spain. Active since the early seventies, he founded the Office of Architecture in Barcelona (OAB) in 2006 with Xavier Martí, Lucía Ferrater and Borja Ferrater. On the whole his work reveals a highly personal path and vocabulary of construction, starting with “a number of mechanisms based on order (...) on a great capacity to adequately resolve the intricate spaces inside the building with a limited repertory of formal elements” (Montaner).  Very attentive to colours, details and “geometry as a tool for creating a harmonious relationship between natural and artificial elements” (Treccani), Ferrater’s work may be divided into phases.  An initial formative period (including the housing complexes in Sant Just Desvern, 1974-1978) was followed by the constructions of the eighties, including significant architectural ....
