VMCF Atelier designs Cultural Plaza theme park in China

The Banan District in the huge city of Chongqing and an immense wooded area on the Yangtze River (the Blue River) will host Cultural Plaza Nanbin Lu Ertang , a theme park designed by VMCF Atelier and architect Valerio Maria Ferrari.
The project’s relationship with nature, and specifically with the Blue River, the longest river in Asia, is a key part of the project. The need to protect the structure from the river, which rises by up to twenty metres when in flood, required construction of a platform about 1 km long which is partially covered by water in summer.
Cultural Plaza Nanbin Lu Ertang will stand on pillars on the platform. The vertical links and horizontal walkways cross the area from the big fountain to the central plaza to link its elements. The complex includes four main structures: an artists’ studio, a museum, a building containing a hotel, bars and restaurants and shops, and an office building housing institutional functions, shaped like a vase to recall our relationship with water, like the fountain in the plaza.
