On October 22, 2021 the largest collection in the world of works by the iconic Norwegian artist Edvard Munch will be open to visitors in the new Munch Museum in Oslo. Work on the new structure designed by the estudio Herreros firm has been completed and during a live-streamed event director Stein Olav Henrichsen presented the museum to the press and announced the opening date. The new Munch Museum will house more than 26,000 works that the famous Norwegian artist bequeathed to the city of Oslo, with a strong commitment to demonstrate just how important and lasting Edvard Munch’s influence has been on society, as well as on young contemporary artists.

ADI Design Museum - Compasso d'Oro inaugurated in Milan

The ADI Design Museum was inaugurated on May 25 in Milan, a new cultural hub for the city focused on narrating and promoting the Italian design system. The Museum will house the historical Compasso d'Oro collection, which consists of selected objects from 1954 to today, together with temporary exhibitions, thematic series, workshops and other events. The museum will also be home to a bookshop and a workshop for school-age children.

As in the restoration of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana in Venice, the collection’s other permanent location, the transformation and restoration of the old building was entrusted to Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

Kanva, the Montreal Biodome: a living museum

David Chipperfield Architects refurbishes the Neue Nationalgalerie designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

The Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, an icon of the Modern Movement designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe has been restored by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin. It is the last project, as well as the only building designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Europe after emigrating to the USA. A virtual ceremony was held on April 29 to inaugurate the refurbished building, while the museum is set to reopen its doors to the public in August 2021.
