Tadao Ando designs He Art Museum HEM in the Shunde District in Guangdong, China

On October 1, the new museum designed by Tadao Ando in the Shunde District in Guangdong province, China opened its doors to the public. For his design, the architect was inspired by ancient Chinese cosmology and by the water pavilions typical of the Lingnan area, yet, as the architect says, based on the western style’s use of light. The museum houses the art collection of the He family, consisting of works of international contemporary art, along with works of modern and contemporary Chinese art.

Work starts on MAD Architects’ FENIX Museum of Migration in Rotterdam

Work has begun on the FENIX Museum of Migration in Rotterdam, the first cultural project in Europe by Ma Yansong’s studio MAD Architects. The museum will be constructed in a location with a particular significance for the history of migration in Europe and beyond: Fenix warehouse, on Katendrecht peninsula, one of Europe’s oldest Chinatowns, a place thousands of people passed through on their way to a new life in the new world.

The Powerhouse Company architecture studio has designed a technology museum and reception centre for a new neighbourhood in Chengdu, the old Chinese city and capital of the Sichuan province. The project immediately became an important point of reference, especially for the iconic structure enclosing the area, a circular trail in the shape of a long red ribbon that follows the natural hills characterising the location, inviting people to explore it.

MVRDV completes construction of Rotterdam’s Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen

Rotterdam’s Museumpark recently saw the completion of construction of Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, designed by architectural practice MVRDV. This unusual bowl-shaped building, lined with mirrors and with a hanging garden on the roof, will become the world’s first art deposit open to the public, due to be officially opened in the autumn of 2021.
