Piuarch Façades: la pelle dell’architettura installation
Piuarch (Francesco Fresa, Germán Fuenmayor, Gino Garbellini e Monica Tricario),

With just over a week to go before the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone events in Milan April 4 through 9, 2017, Floornature editors are preparing to report on the events from their base at SpazioFMGperl'architettura, the Iris Ceramica e FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti gallery and showroom. Let’s start with a preview of some of the most interesting events concerning architecture. Such as Façades: la pelle dell’architettura (the skin of architecture), an installation by Piuarch and an exhibition about façades in the studio’s projects over its 20 year history.

A façade gardening installation will decorate an entire wall in the courtyard of the building at Via Palermo 5 where Piuarch is based. The project, designed in collaboration with landscape architect Cornelius Gavril, is a vertical garden in which flowering plants and vegetables are cut and grafted onto tubers. The tubers provide the plants with all the nutrients they need and preserve them at length, while the scent of the flowers and the presence of metallic elements and bells among the rows of plants complete the work to involve all the observer’s senses. Inside the studio, the exhibition about façades designed by Piuarch focuses on the theme of the façade as a true linguistic genre. A work by artist Mauricio Lupini welcomes visitors and introduces the visual theme which is then developed in photographs, drawings, illustrations, prints and models of projects such as Quattro Corti (Saint Petersburg), Onda Bianca (Milan), Bentini Headquarters (Faenza) and the Givenchy Building (Seoul).
