Foster inaugurates Ciudad Casa de Gobierno Buenos Aires

Foster + Partners designed the new city hall, Ciudad Casa de Gobierno di Buenos Aires, which opened recently.
The building is part of a wider-ranging programme for regeneration of the entire Parque Patricios district, a building that lives in symbiosis with the nearby park.
The transparent construction with its undulating roof has a system of inner patios staggered and set back from the floor to ceiling glass of the main façade.
The interior is built around two courtyards allowing natural light to light up the interiors. The workspaces are also visible from outside and have practically no opaque vertical partitions.
The architects wanted to create a highly flexible space which would encourage communication among employees and create a sense of community. In addition to the offices, the building contains a 300 seat auditorium and a coffee shop open to the local community.
