The finalists of the World Architecture Festival 2022

The World Architecture Festival and the INSIDE World Festival of Interiors will take place in Lisbon from 30 November to 2 December 2022. After the 2021 edition, therefore, the world's leading event dedicated to architecture returns to the Portuguese capital once again. In preparation for this important annual event which, with its exhibitions, seminars and meetings, represents a true celebration of architecture, the sixth edition of “The Architecture Drawing Prize” was recently announced. The prize, which is awarded for the representation of architecture in its three different forms (manual, digital and hybrid) entries for which can be submitted until 9 September, is organised in partnership between Make Architects, the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London and the World Architecture Festival (WAF) with the sponsorship of Iris Ceramica Group and Floornature as European media partner.
. At the same time, the list of finalists for the World Architecture Festival was unveiled on 11 July, and the finalists for the INSIDE World Festival of Interiors on 13 July. For the three macro areas of the WAF awards the following were selected: 253 projects that will compete for the different categories of the "WAF Completed Buildings", 147 for the "WAF Future Projects" and 17 for the "WAF landscape", the category reserved for landscape projects implemented in rural or urban settings.
Following the festival’s well-established formula, the finalist studios and architects will present their projects live to international super juries and the audience of colleagues attending the event. On 2 December, the final day of the festival, the winners of the main titles ofWorld Building of the Year, Future Project of the Year and Landscape of the Year will be selected and announced from amongst the competing projects. Browsing through the long list of finalists, we notice that most of the selected projects belong to the residential sphere with 31 projects in total, divided between 17 rural and 14 urban buildings. Among the most numerous groupings is the 'New and Old' section with 18 projects selected from interventions in the built environment with renovation and reuse of pre-existing structures. This is followed with 17 projects each by the sections dedicated to housing, schools, civic centres and buildings dedicated to culture. In this last section we find many architectural projects recently presented in the pages of Floornature such as:The Hedberg designed by LIMINAL Studio with WOHA Architects, Narbo Via by Foster + Partners, the Sino-Italian Cultural Exchange Centre by AOE, the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen by MVRDV, ICE CUBE by Zone of Utopia and Mathieu Forest Architecte.
