Masquespacio signs The Student Hotel in Barcelona

Creative studio Masquespacio, by Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse, signed the interior design of two new properties opened by Dutch hotel group “The Student Hotel” in Barcelona. Masquespacio welcomes the students combining the brand identity with its colourful aesthetics.


Are you a student? A unique design experience is waiting for you in Barcelona! Indeed, the Dutch hotel chain The Student Hotel opened its first two properties in the Marina and Poble Sec districts of the Catalan capital, offering a unique co-living and co-working hybrid. The Student Hotel cooperative and collaborative business model, offering a hybrid destination to a growing international community, is rapidly spreading. Indeed, the group plans to have 41 properties in Europe by 2021.
To renovate and design both properties in Barcelona, created in existing buildings to be adapted for their new destination of use, The Student Hotel collaborated with Masquespacio, the Valencia-based creative agency founded in 2010 by architect Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and marketing expert Christophe Penasse.
With The Student Hotel, they faced the biggest project in their career to date: the Campus Marina, a four-towered, 21,000-m2 building provided with 500 rooms. The facility offers communal spaces such as swimming pools, gaming zones, seating areas and study rooms to meet the needs of all its users.
Masquespacio developed the interior design, creating a mix that is in line with the brand image, while at the same time adding a touch of Mediterranean identity through the use of local materials and a bold colour palette. The guests are welcomed by an eclectic style that fuses materials, colours and textures which recall the Memphis style of the 1970s and industrial aesthetics, creating a sensorial experience that is definitely innovative for this market segment. 
Bold design choices were made to make sure that every decorative element could blend perfectly with a student lifestyle, becoming an inspiration for the users, in line with TSH objective: creating welcoming spaces that, with the creative liveliness of Masquespacio, could offer a really stimulating environment.
