Kirsten Schwalgien, award-winning interior in a historical setting in Barcelona
German interior designer Kirsten Schwalgien has transformed the ground floor of listed local gem Casa Burés—one of the best examples of Modernist architecture in Barcelona’s Eixample district and designed in 1905 by Francesc Berenguer—into a state-of-the-art residential loft. Crafts NOW: 2nd edition, this time online

Raúl Sánchez: The Magic Box Apartment in Barcelona
Raúl Sánchez renovated a ground-floor apartment in a building in the centre of Viladecans, near Barcelona, on the basis of the load-bearing wall that divides the space in half. The Magic Box is a golden wardrobe that he added to act as the threshold between rooms offering the perfect setting for the two daughters’ play.

Raúl Sánchez: Tibbaut Duplex in Barcelona’s El Raval district
In the Tibbaut Duplex, Raúl Sánchez combines two apartments into a duplex and creates a box within a box that divides and organises the space. Two floors that were once separate and suffered the effects of a strongly longitudinal orientation are now joined with new circular routes.

Taller 9s: Cal Xerta paper mill, Sant Pere de Riudebitlles, Barcelona
Thanks to a project by Taller 9s, the demolition of the old Cal Xerta paper mill - a defunct, dilapidated factory in Sant Pere de Riudebitlles - was avoided, replaced by the idea to set up an interpretation centre for paper, a traditional trade linked to the valley of the River Bitlles.

Mesura handle the first restoration of the historic Cheriff restaurant in Barceloneta in 60 years
In Barceloneta, the old residents are the true records of the area’s history, including its local landmarks. One of the legendary examples that they might point out - a place largely unknown to tourists - is the Cheriff restaurant, which has been serving up fresh fish and seafood from the nearby docks every day since 1959. This local institution commissioned the Mesura architecture firm, also from Barcelona, to oversee the restaurant’s restoration, ensuring that it stayed in line with what has been Cheriff’s unmistakable style for the past sixty years whilst also updating it for the 21st century.
