International workshop: The City and The Water

Livegreenblog was invited to the international workshop “The City and The Water - Architecture, Arts and Design for the New Waterfront of Marina di Pietrasanta”. The interdisciplinary workshop is organised by the University of Pisa (Building Engineering and Architecture Degree Course) and by the Visual Arts Centre of Pietrasanta.



Livegreenblog at the Visual Arts Centre (CAV) of Pietrasanta, to visit “The City and The Water - Architecture, Arts and Design for the New Waterfront of Marina di Pietrasanta”. A design workshop based on the cultural and environmental identity of the Apuan-Versilian territory. The workshop was directed by Roberto Pierini, Programme Director of the Building Engineering and Architecture Degree Course at the University of Pisa, and professor of Urban planning at the same university. The Scientific Director was João Nunes, internationally renowned architect and professor, founder of the Proap studio in Lisbon, whose urban planning and landscaping projects we will be exploring in the near future.





More than 40 students attended the workshop, which covered the Marina of Pietrasanta, a context of great environmental value and a popular tourist resort, but with a highly fragile equilibrium. So, the aim is to regenerate the waterfront and marina of this famous location in Versilia, also by renewing the sense of belonging of the local inhabitants and connecting it with the community of Pietrasanta. All of this stemming from a productive collaboration between international guests and locals: university, local government authorities, professionals, associations, business enterprises, artisans and artists. A real workshop of common know-how, which takes physical form in the architectural and art works showcased.





The workshop ended on Sunday 14 September with the opening of the exhibition and presentation of the final results in the Cloister of Sant’Agostino, Piazza del Duomo, Pietrasanta; the exhibition will be open to the general public until Sunday 21 September 2014 to share the project experience with the local community.
