A new award for architects Christoph Ingenhoven and Ray Brown: the skyscraper they designed at "1 Bligh Street" in Sydney has won the International Highrise Award 2012, chosen over four other finalists:
The Pinnacle @Duxton (Singapore) by ARC Studio Architecture + Urbanism,
The Troika (Kuala Lumpur) by Foster + Partners,
Eight Spruce Street (New York) by Gehry Partners,
Absolute Towers (Mississauga, Canada) by MAD.
The prize jury acknowledged the exceptional architectural quality of "1 Bligh Street", a project that aims to meet the inhabitants? needs rather than create an architectural landmark.
For the first time in the history of the Highrise Award, a special mention has been awarded for renovation of an existing skyscraper, the Deutsche Bank Tower in Frankfurt, designed by gmp – von Gerkan, Marg und Partner + Mario Bellini Architects.
An exhibition underway at DAM in Frankfurt presents the award-winning highrises in large-scale models, photographs, drawings and videos.
