Nuove cantine italiane. Territori e architetture exhibition and book

Eleven architectural studios, ten wineries, a distillery and their territories are featured in the travelling photography exhibition entitled "Nuove cantine italiane. Territori e architetture" (“New Italian wineries. Territories and architecture”) presented in the splendid setting of the eighteenth-century Palazzo Balladoro - Banca Passadore in Verona during the 2022 edition of Vinitaly. The exhibition, accompanied by a volume published by Electa, is a fascinating voyage among eleven examples of Italian excellence combining design with wine, innovation with tradition, to offer a complete experience of the country’s wine-making territories and buildings.
Concrete testimony of growing interest in understanding everything that has to do with the world of wine, from wineries and their territories to various stages in the process of wine-making: grapes, growing methods, transformation and ageing. This interest encompasses the places where wine-making takes place, in terms of the territories and therefore the design of the landscape, buildings and spaces where wine is produced. The exhibition explores a number of regions of Italy (Veneto, Piemonte, Alto Adige, Tuscany and Sicily) and areas renowned the world over for their outstanding wines, such as the Maremma and Langhe, the first wine-producing area to be included in the Unesco World Heritage List.
The photographic documentation accompanying the book and the exhibition testifies to the wineries’ relationship with their territories and, through the examples offered, the architects’ ability to translate into structures and surfaces the character of a territory and its cultural, environmental, geological and morphological qualities, making these places more harmonious and welcoming for visitors. The projects featured have all been built in the past decade by architects from a variety of different backgrounds. A number of these projects have been selected for international awards and have already been presented in the pages of Floornature, such as Cantina Podernuovo in Palazzone, designed by Alvisi Kirimoto + Partners, Cantina Antinori in Florence, designed by Archea Associati, Cantina Planeta designed by Santi Albanese and Gaetano Gulino on the slopes of Mt. Etna, and Nals Margreid winery in Nalles – Bolzano by architect Markus Scherer.
