Structural upcycling: where natural geometry meets digital geometry
Felix Amtsberg - a researcher at the University of Stuttgart working in collaboration with a combined team from MIT and Aachen University - has identified a new use for what was until now considered nothing more than wood processing waste, namely tree forks. The research undertaken by Amtsberg and his colleagues shows how these bifurcations can be used as connecting elements in structures, thus reducing their overall environmental impact.

Playful and sustainable, Patch City by ROOI Design and Research
The Chinese ROOI Design and Research studio has designed recyclable multifunctional modules to create temporary settings. Between the Patch-City Pavilion and the Patch-City Café, these modules, conceived as "toy building blocks", allow for a free and flexible combination and can be recycled into furniture after use for the installation.

CLB Architects, FILTER sustainable pavilion in Times Square
FILTER, the steel and wood pavilion designed by CLB Architects for the Design Pavilion and the NYCxDesign Festival, was on display in Times Square, New York. A monumental object and an ephemeral experience, the pavilion is a space for quiet recentring within the fast-paced energy of Times Square, evoking the rugged Wyoming landscape from which it originates. All made with sustainable materials.
