CLB Architects, FILTER sustainable pavilion in Times Square

FILTER, the steel and wood pavilion designed by CLB Architects for the Design Pavilion and the NYCxDesign Festival, was on display in Times Square, New York. A monumental object and an ephemeral experience, the pavilion is a space for quiet recentring within the fast-paced energy of Times Square, evoking the rugged Wyoming landscape from which it originates. All made with sustainable materials.

NEXT500 pavilion: MVRDV for the Fuggerei in Augsburg

Daisugi: a thousand-year-old technique for optimising lumber production

Can we obtain lumber without cutting down trees? Judging from the way our tropical forests are disappearing, the answer is no. But actually, it is possible, if you don’t kill the tree, so it can continue growing. This is the ancient technique of Daisugi, literally meaning "platform cedar", in use in Japan’s Kyoto prefecture since the fourteenth century.

ANARCHITECT’s Modernist hotel in Sri Lanka

Harding Boutique Hotel opened a few months ago in Ahangama, Sri Lanka. The project by British architect Jonathan Ashmore of ANARCHITECT is the result of close collaboration between the client and the architect, paying tribute to the Sri Lanka Tropical Modernism genre of architecture and its founder Geoffrey Bawa.

Wood Works 2022: what can we learn from trees?

“There is a forest in my backyard but my house is built from trees grown far away”. This is the title chosen by the Estonian curators, b210 Architects, and the Irish curators, Alder Architects, of the travelling exhibition entitled Wood Works, paying tribute to the "secret life" of timber in architecture, promoted by the Estonian Association of Architects, the Estonian Centre for Architecture and the Irish Architecture Foundation. The exhibition is currently at the Solstice Arts Centre in Navan (Ireland), and will be at the Tallinn Architecture Biennale in September.

The New River Train Observation Tower sets an example for the construction of low carbon emissions structures, and is the world’s first building to employ modular construction methods with HCLT timber.
