Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine

Science fiction becomes reality. This is the promise offered by ‘Hello, Robot.’, an exhibition that opened its doors for the first time in 2017 thanks to the joint efforts of the Vitra Design Museum, MAK Vienna and the Design Museum Gent. On 24 September, ‘Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine’ reopened to the public, freshly updated and extended, to round off its five-year world tour with a flourish. More than two hundred pieces, objects and projects are on display, paired with fourteen questions geared towards plumbing the depths of our relationship with machines. Have you ever met a robot?

Two important additions enrich the Vitra Campus collection. From May 14 at the Vitra Schaudepot, the "exhibition depot" designed by the Herzog & De Meuron studio, it is possible to visit Luis Barragán's Archive, the most important Mexican architect of the 20th century. On the same day "Colour Rush! An Installation by Sabine Marcelis" was also inaugurated. The Dutch designer has conceived a new installation based on colour to present to the public, in a whole new perspective, the permanent collection kept in the Vitra Schaudepot.

"Plastic: Remaking Our World" exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum

Loved/hated, plastic is a revolutionary, consumerist and deeply controversial material. The exhibition inaugurated at the end of March and curated by the Vitra Design Museum, the V&A Dundee and the maat Museum in Lisbon narrates every facet of its story, starting from the great diffusion and rise of plastic in the 20th century, to pop and colourful contemporary projects, and shifting to the problems related to the environmental impact of this material, to arrive at the latest avant-garde solutions for a more sustainable use of plastic and to bioplastics produced with algae and mycelium.

exhibition "Memphis: 40 Years of Kitsch and Elegance" at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery

Objects, designs and materials are on display at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery in the exhibition "Memphis: 40 Years of Kitsch and Elegance”, that recounts the world and history of Memphis, the legendary group of Italian designers formed to overturn the dogmas of functionalism which then dominated industrial design, which, although short-lived (from 1981 to 1987), had considerable international influence.

"Spot On - Women Designers in the Collection" exhibition and Nathalie Du Pasquier at the Vitra 

New works in a feminine key at the Campus Vitra in Weil am Rhein, in Germany. A new work by artist and designer Nathalie Du Pasquier has been installed near the Fire Station designed by Zaha Hadid and, to celebrate the five year anniversary of its inauguration, the Vitra Schaudepot, the building designed by the Herzog & De Meuron studio, is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the role of women in the world of furniture design.
