Gabriele Basilico exhibition: Photographs from the MAXXI collections

Maxxi pays homage to Gabriele Basilico, a great Italian photographer who passed away in 2013. The exhibition includes more than 70 images from the MAXXI Arte and MAXXI Architettura collections. Part of the exhibition is about the museum itself, telling its history through Basilico’s lens.

The photographs on display range from Gabriele Basilico’s works for the 2003 "Atlante italiano" (“Italian atlas”) project, photos from the 2009 "Cantiere d'Autore" (“Artistic Construction Site”) project featuring images of the MAXXI construction site, and photos of the museum’s inauguration in May 2010 with an exhibition of works by Luigi Moretti.

A preview of a documentary film made by Amos Gitai featuring a video interview with the photographer and a selection of the photographer’s most significant images of post-war Beirut and the cities of Italy complete the exhibition covering Gabriele Basilico’s artistic career.
