The pavilion designed by the architects of Davis Brody Bond is an iconic, easily recognisable, welcoming gathering-place for the local people, a flexible space suitable for hosting a variety of different activities including cultural and artistic events as well as a crafts market and a farmers’ market.
In this context, the structure’s integration with its surroundings is a key to the architects’ programme, as is the choice of sustainable installations (rainwater collection, natural ventilation, etc.).
Inaugurated in the final months of 2013, the building is a flexible structure accessible on all levels, high enough to permit trucks to circulate and load and unload goods on market days. The roof is accessible to offer visitors new points of view over the neighbourhood, and can also be used to host outdoor events and concerts.
