Moving Dunes, an installation by NÓS in Montreal

With Moving Dunes, the Canadian studio NÓS has designed an urban project in the centre of Montreal based on the concept of anamorphosis. This method revolves around a distorted projection requiring the viewer to occupy a specific vantage point, use special devices or both to view a recognizable image and here it animated their installation that they propose as an experiential mirage.

This year’s International Garden Festival at Reford Gardens in Canada entitled Métissages - blending or crossbreeding - was somewhat out of the ordinary. The five design teams selected from among 200 submissions following an international call for applications were unable to travel to Grand-Métis in June. Still, the Festival team built their installations to make sure the event could go ahead as planned.

The installation was designed for small events, from musical performances to weddings, and offers a new type of rural event space for the area. Dutch architecture studio MVRDV has created a virtuous example of the circular economy in Tainan, Taiwan. The architects removed and recycled a strategically positioned shopping mall in the old town, which no longer serves its intended purpose, replacing it with a sunken public plaza dominated by an urban pool and local plants, and surrounded by a shaded arcade.
