Exhibition: Playgrounds. Reinventing the Square at the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid.
Until 22 September, why not drop into the Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid and visit the exhibition entitled “Playgrounds. Reinventing the Square”. A study of the collective dimension of play, based on the need for a physical space in the city.

“Playgrounds. Reinventing the Square” is the name of the exhibition being held at the Reina Sofia museum, Madrid, which you can visit until 22 September. The title alone gives you an idea of the strong ties between theplayful dimension and a physical place in an urban setting: here the value of play is represented not merely as a pastime, it has gone further and is a public issue.

The exhibition therefore investigates various aspects of the “playground”, also including the actual concept of leisure and of how play is fundamental in the education and training of human beings.

This exhibition is not limited to just “Playgrounds” as specially created areas, it focuses on the spontaneous component, namely “Reinventing the Square”. Basically, it means taking back the consummate urban space – the town square – for play and therefore for the community, without being forced to invest huge sums in infrastructures.

With more than 300 different kinds of artworks – from paintings to sculpture, from photography to installations – the exhibition showcases playgrounds from the dawn of modern time to now, a must-see exhibition for anyone who still loves to play!
