Apartment X, Porto. Monoatelier. Milan-based architecture firm Monoatelier refurbished an apartment located in a 1940s building in Porto, Portugal, creating an interior that is all about music and art.

The design concept for this apartment by architecture firm, Monoatelier is based on art and music.

The project is the refurbishment of an old gym located in a 1940s building in the centre of Porto. A corridor runs along the length of the apartment, with windows opening only on the north side, strongly defining the layout.  The architects adapted the sections to create a liveable connecting space. The size of the living room walls was a response to the client’s brief: to display their private art collection.

The music room is the home’s heart and you have to step through a round opening in the living room wall – almost like a secret entry – to get to it.

Local tradespersons did all the work, and their cultural baggage influenced the choice of materials and the actual realisation of the dwelling.

The projects by Monoatelier are on display at SpazioFMG as part of the Italian interior design exhibition (link NEWS), open until 4 April. An opportunity to get to know them right up close.
