Two recent examples of architectures at the service of fashion were realised in Madrid and Brussels by studio Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, of architects Tiziano Vudafieri and Claudio Saverino.

Concept stores and flagship stores are the places where the materials and elements of architecture become the interpreters of the philosophy of a brand. Studio Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, of architects Tiziano Vudafieri and Claudio Saverino, has recently signed two projects for the fashion industry: a new Sonia Rykiel boutique in Madrid, inspired by the literary cafés of the Rive Gauche of Paris, home city of the stylist, and “Le 27”, the new Brussels boutique of the Dalvaux Leather Good House, founded in Belgium in 1829.

Sonia Rykiel, Madrid
The French Maison founded by stylist and writer Sonia Rykiel, who passed away in 2016, inaugurated its first Spanish flagship store in Madrid. For the interior design, architectural studio Vudafieri-Saverino Partners which, since 2013, has been in charge of the development of the stores of this fashion house, created a brand new concept.
They drew their inspiration from the atmosphere of the Rive Gauche of Paris, characterised by its literary shops and intellectual glamour. They wanted to reflect in the boutique the historical and unconventional characteristics of the Paris-based brand.
The architects created an elegant and informal venue composed of different environments whose custom-made furniture shows a light and linear design.
Outside, the façade stands out thanks to the contrast between the polished black covering and the white colour of the backlit logo and thanks to the striped awnings that recall the brand iconic patterns. The windows and the changing rooms are a first introduction to the concept created by the architects through bistro furniture, such as the Thonet table and the chairs by Martino Gamper. The entrance hall is characterised by a full height bookcase, exhibiting works from the historic French collection Gallimard. Two wide, red portals then take the visitors to the rooms where the main collection is exhibited, and to the “Salon”, a more intimate environment that recreates a modern boudoir.

Le 27 – Delvaux, Brussels
Since 2012, architectural studio Vudafieri-Saverino Partners has been designing the stores of the Delvaux brand all over the world. The architects realised different projects in every city, to make sure they would perfectly fit their contexts. It is the case of “Le 27”, the new boutique realised in Brussels, in a historical villa dating back to the 19th century that was transformed in what we could define as a mixture between a concept store and a contemporary art gallery. Unique and rare contemporary design works from Belgium and the rest of the world, paintings and a 20th century collection of Belgian pottery create a varied and constantly evolving collection, which perfectly represents the Belgian history and, more specifically, the first period of modern design. These objects were chosen to be exhibited side by side with the products of the brand, this way transforming the store into a travel through the values and the historical, artistic and cultural inheritance of Delvaux.
The architects preserved the original structure of the two-floor villa and its 19th century decoration. Visitors are welcomed by a majestic entrance portico, with a wide staircase taking them to the upper floor, where the great windows of the Art Déco skylight let abundant light in. In these spaces, which combine different materials and objects to create a dynamic balance between classic and modern, the architects designed modular elements which organise and rationalise the presentation of the products of the brand, paying homage to the abstract pictures of Mondrian’s De Stijl artistic movement.
