Biennale Architettura 2021 due to open on May 22

Biennale President Roberto Cicutto and curator Hashim Sarkis have confirmed the dates of the 17th International Architecture exhibition, entitled “How will we live together?”, May 22 through November 21, 2021 at the Giardini, the Arsenale and Forte Marghera, with the usual pre-opening on May 20 and 21. The live-streamed presentation saw the participation of Christopher Turner, who, along with Ella Kilgallon, curates the 2021 Applied Arts Pavilion under a partnership between La Biennale di Venezia and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Square! Positively shrinking at the Estonian Pavilion in the Architecture Exhibition at Biennale Venezia 2021

Estonia will be participating in the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at Biennale di Venezia, "How will we live together?", curated by architect Hashim Sarkis. Starting on May 22, at the country’s pavilion in the Arsenale complex, the Estonian Centre for Architecture will present the exhibition “Square! Positively shrinking”, curated by Jiří Tintěra, Garri Raagmaa, Kalle Vellevoog, Martin Pedanik and Paulina Pähn, investigating the role of quality urban space in the future development of small towns with declining populations.

Lina Bo Bardi awarded Special Golden Lion in memoriam at the Biennale Architettura 2021

Architect Hashim Sarkis, curator of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, recommended Lina Bo Bardi as this year’s recipient of the Special Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in memoriam, proposal accepted by the Board of Directors of the Venice Biennale. The announcement was made on March 8, 2021, on the occasion of Women’s Day. For Hashim Sarkis, the Italian-born architect, designer, scenographer, artist and critic, naturalised as a Brazilian citizen, most fittingly embodies the theme of the Biennale Architettura 2021, identifying in the design of the São Paulo Museum the greatest example of her ability to transform architecture into a social art.

2021 Architecture Biennale, the Nordic Pavilion as experimental cohousing

After the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic, participants are now starting to share a few more details. The Nordic Pavilion, curated by the National Museum of Norway with architects Helen & Hard will respond to this year’s theme of “How will we live together?” with the exhibition “What We Share. A model for cohousing”.
