Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum presents a retrospective of the work of architect Rafael Moneo featuring material from the archive of photographs and drawings of his projects built between 1961 and 2016, for theoretical reflection on the profession of architect.
On November 22, 2016 it was announced that the prestigious award for classic achievement in architecture, the 2017 Piranesi Prix de Rome for Lifetime Achievement, would be presented to 2011 Pritzker Prize winner Eduardo Souto de Moura on March 24, 2017.
Architects Ángela García de Paredes and Ignacio García Pedrosa (Paredes Pedrosa arquitectos) renovated the headquarters of the National Bank of Spain in Madrid, an 1884 building which has been repeatedly renovated but still appears unchanged.

The plans for expansion of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston have been unveiled. Architect Steven Holl came up with a masterplan for the entire campus and designed two buildings, while Lake|Flato Architects designed the conservation and restoration centre.
