2016 International Sacred Architecture Award and Exhibition

The awards ceremony for the 6th International Sacred Architecture Award, a prize awarded every four years by Fondazione Frate Sole, was held on October 4 in Pavia. At the awards ceremony, the winning architects and honourable mentions presented their projects, and the winner, architect Rafael Moneo with his Iglesia de Iesu in San Sebastian, held a lectio magistralis, introduced by architecture historian Francesco Dal Co.
Chilean architect Cristian Undurraga, whose "Capilla del Retiro" won the previous prize in 2012, also participated in the event.

The awards ceremony began in the courtyard of Palazzo Broletto in Pavia with the opening of an exhibition featuring the 86 projects entered in the 6th International Competition, represented through photographs of the interiors and exteriors and technical drawings exhibited on a special self-supporting structure set up for the purpose under the arcades of the building. The day of celebration ended with an informal public conversation between architect Rafael Moneo and Susanna Zatti, director of the Civic Museums of the Visconti Castle in Pavia, entitled: Museum Architecture: Traditional and Contemporary. Rafael Moneo emphasised that the museum cannot be reduced to a definite typological proposal, but must take into account differences in the collections on display, the location and the importance of the museum in the city.
