449 Architectural projects submitted for the Mies van der Rohe Award

The list of 449 architectural projects submitted for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2022, located in 279 cities in 41 countries, was announced on February 2. 514 architectural practices compete for the European Union’s most important award for architecture, presented by the European Commission and Fundació Mies van der Rohe. For the first time, the current edition also includes works built in Armenia, Moldavia and Tunisia.

Berger Parkkinen Architects designs Der Rosenhügel housing in Vienna

For the Berger + Parkkinen architecture firm, 2021 has certainly started off on the right foot. The Paracelsus Bath & Spa Salzburg, a project that the architecture studio based in Vienna completed last year and that we have already presented in Floornature’s pages, was nominated for two major awards: the Mies van der Rohe Award and the Fiabci Prix D'Excellence Austria. The architecture firm has also recently completed a number of other interesting projects, like the "Der Rosenhügel" housing complex, built on the former site of the film studios with the same name located in Vienna.

EskewDumezRipple and The Beacon in New Orleans

The Beacon is a new residential building in New Orleans, Louisiana, designed by US architecture firm, EskewDumezRipple. It is inspired by the local courtyard buildings, but in this case, it opens directly onto the street to provide a shared space for the whole neighbourhood.

From shoe factory to sustainable, mixed-use building

Batawa is a small town in Ontario, Canada that gravitated around the large Bata shoe factory. It’s now going through a sustainable and social conversion, once again at the request of the entrepreneurs. The renovated factory has been born again as a mixed-use residential, commercial and community building designed by Quadrangle and Dubbeldam Architecture + Design.

Qvillestaden by Bornstein Lyckefors, sustainable housing in wood
