SpazioFMG presents The Architects Series – A documentary on: MC A Mario Cucinella Architects

Major changes are underway at SpazioFMGperl'Architettura. On February 22 the Milanese gallery operated by the Iris Ceramica and FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti brands introduces a new exhibition format, The Architects Series, curated by The Plan, and publicly unveils its new showroom layout with an outstanding guest of honour, architect Mario Cucinella, curator of the Italian pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.

More than 10 years have gone by sinceIris Ceramica and FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti opened SpazioFMGperl'Architettura in 2007 in one of Milan’s liveliest neighbourhoos: Zona Tortona.
In a former industrial district and that is now an important international centre of fashion and design, as well as a landmark for Fuorisalone events during the Salone del Mobile, the two Italian Iris Ceramica Group brands found fertile soil for innovating with the very idea of the showroom.
SpazioFMGperl'Architettura has a dual soul: both exhibition gallery and showroom. It is a place for discovering and discussing architecture, while at the same time serving professionals in the trade and the general public with a display of its high-tech ceramic and porcelain products. Curated by architect and critic Luca Molinari, SpazioFMG has been anticipating trends in architecture since 2007, becoming an important meeting-place for architecture and the city. The showroom at no. 27 Via Ambrogio da Fossano Bergognone has hosted prominent members of the international architecture community such as Michele De Lucchi, Herzog & De Meuron, David Chipperfield, Bernard Khoury, Carlo Ratti, Winy Maas (MVRDV) and the experience of The Why Factory, to mention only a few of the most recent events featuring world-renowned architects. The centre has also hosted prominent Italian architects such as Cherubino Gambardella, Francesco Librizzi, Piuarch, and Lombardini22; key figures in Milanese design and culture such as Cini Boeri, Nanda Vigo, the Castellinis and Ennio Brion.

In 2018 SpazioFMGperl’Architettura is changing and presenting the public with a new showroom layout and cultural format: a multi-year project curated by The Plan magazine with a focus on web series for architecture, underlining the showroom’s mission as a place for professionals in the trade to meet and talk, and for production of cultural events of interest to architecture fans among the general public.
The new format, entitled The Architects Series, will use the video medium and multimedia formats to take visitors to SpazioFMG behind the scenes of architecture, right into the participating architects’ studios. New videos produced exclusively for The Architects Series will reveal the modus operandi and artistic inspiration of key figures in Italian and international architecture.

The guest of honour at the first event in The Architects Series will be architect Mario Cucinella, curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. The opening event on February 22 begins at 18:30 with a screening of The Architects Series - A documentary on: MC A Mario Cucinella Architects.
The founder of MC A Mario Cucinella Architects - one of the most active and prominent European architectural studios today in terms of both the architectural quality of their projects and their work in the areas of energy and environmental sustainability - tells his story through visual storytelling. Empathy, creativity and sustainability are concepts of key importance for Mario Cucinella. These three essential concepts can be found in all the studio’s projects and in the relationship between architects, project team and client. The 30-minute screening will be followed by a talk with the architect himself, discussing the profession of architect, the important social and environmental implications of the role, and the studio’s recent and current projects. Mario Cucinella will also talk about his concept of architecture and present the Arcipelago Italia project for the Italian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Show in Venice.
In the six annual shows included in “The Architects Series”, SpazioFMG offers the public a new form of quality architectural events and keeps up to date with the evolution of communication and the latest new design trends.
