On 16 November 2023, a new episode in The Architects Series, the exhibition format curated by THE PLAN magazine for Iris Ceramica Group, will be live streamed from ICG Gallery in London. The thirty-third episode in the series features German architectural practice TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten.
TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten is now an international studio with offices in Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden and an interdisciplinary team of over 180 professionals. The practice has a long history, founded in 1931 by visionary architects Herbert Sprotte and Peter Neve, joined between 1970 and 1974 by architects Alf M. Prasch, Wolfgang Nietz and Peter Sigl. In 1995, architects Sergei Tchoban and Ekkehard Voss also became partners, taking on a role of leadership and guiding the team toward new goals. Since 2009 the company’s structure has been strengthened by the addition of associate partners and project partners, and in 2017 it took on the new name "TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten" to mark this change.
According to the well-established programme of The Architect Series, the 16 November event will start at 7:00 p.m. with the screening of a video documentary on the practice, taking viewers behind the scenes to discover how the studio works and look at a number of TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten’s projects. From homes to cultural centres, encompassing restoration and revitalisation of historical monuments and work for public and private clients, the practice displays a wide range of highly varied skills with a vast project portfolio employing innovative sustainable solutions in various parts of Germany and abroad.
The meeting will conclude with a lecture by Sergei Tchoban, managing partner of the practice and head of its Berlin office. Winner of the 2018 European Architecture Prize for lifetime achievement presented by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, Tchoban has completed numerous projects including Germany’s largest sustainable hybrid-timber office complex, the EDGE Suedkreuz Berlin, Berlin’s Rosenthaler Strasse Apple Store, revitalisation of the Ernst-Reuter-Platz 6 office building, and more. Tchoban’s designs have been shown and included in museums and private collections all over the world.
