From Saturday 13 May to Sunday 26 November, the 57th International Art Exhibition will be open to the public at the Giardini and the Arsenale venues. In addition to the usual 85 national participations in the historic pavilions and in the historic city centre of Venice, three countries - Antigua and Barbuda, Kiribati, Nigeria  - will be participating for the first time in this events-rich exhibition while for Kazakhstan it is its first single presence.
As the chair of La Biennale di Venezia Paolo Baratta stressed, of the 120 artists who have been invited from 51 countries, 103 are participating here for the first time - some of them are new discoveries and others are rediscoveries.
The curator Christine Macel has adopted the theme of a journey, turning it into a real first-hand experience because today, “in a world full of conflicts and shocks, art bears witness to the most precious part of what makes us human.”
In this sense, the 57th International Art Exhibition of Venice aims to underscore the role, the voice and the responsibility of the artist in the framework of contemporary debates, because with their art they can give us an idea of which way to go.
Nine chapters or families of artists constitute the so-called “trans-pavilions” so a narrative that supersedes the concept of the nation to explore the various artistic fields. So we have the Pavilion of Artists and Books, the Pavilion of Joys and Fears, the Pavilion of the Common, the Pavilion of the Earth, the Pavilion of Traditions, the Dionysian Pavilion, the Pavilion of Colours and the Pavilion of Time and Infinity. An exhibition as an anthem to art, just like the title itself, which seems to be an exclamation: “Viva Arte Viva!”
On 15 May, we'll be there with a special guide: Kristine Guzman, the general coordinator of the MUSAC museum Spain.
