Seaside Single House by Modostudio
A house in an enchanting setting that strives to achieve harmony with nature, reusing existing materials and echoing the dry walls typical of the landscape around it.

Monte Argentario National Park, with its spectacular views of the sea and the Tuscan archipelago, provides the backdrop for this project by multidisciplinary architectural practice modostudio cibinel laurenti martocchia architetti associati of Rome.

An old farm shed provided the basis for this project built entirely from reclaimed materials, an example of upcycling the building’s function in a way that demonstrates respect for the character of the place. The old stones and the white window frames create an elegant atmosphere while underlining the home’s close link with its surroundings.

Thus the home fits perfectly into its natural surroundings, like a dry wall. The effect is emphasised by the particular shape of the roof, following the vernacular tradition, translating a traditional local element into a contemporary style.

A wooden deck joins the stone of the architectural volume with the lawn, practically extending the home out into the garden.

Passive solar systems make the home self-sufficient for heating, and so in addition to being made out of local materials and thus improving its ecological balance, the building is practically carbon neutral.
