To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the National Park Service in the USA, the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, is presenting a large exhibition exploring the role of photography in the development of the parks and in our understanding of these landscapes.

Photography and America's National Parks - exhibition To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the National Park Service in the USA, the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, is presenting a large exhibition exploring the role of photography in the development of the parks and in our understanding of these landscapes.


An exhibition that brings together two of the passions of Livegreenblog - photography and landscapes. “Photography and America's National Parks”, at the George Eastman Museum, Rochester, New York until 2 October 2016, celebrating the first 100 years of the US National Park Service with 170 photos taken in the late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century, in addition to showcasing contemporary photographers, such as Abelardo Morell and David Benjamin Sherry.





The exhibition is an opportunity to address the great importance of the photographs of these unique, significant landscapes in communicating a project aimed at protecting nature as the true wealth of these lands. The exhibition is divided into themes: exploration, tourism, land conservation, and art. The interactive exhibition concept offers something special for visitors of all ages.  





An extensive schedule of programmes is also planned in conjunction with “Photography and America's National Parks”. Founded in 1947 as an independent non-profit institution, the George Eastman Museum is the world’s oldest photography museum and one of the largest film archives in the United States; it is located on the Rochester estate of philanthropist George Eastman, the pioneer of popular photography and motion picture film. So the museum is offering talks by some of the exhibited photographers, in addition to concerts and films.





In keeping with the philosophy of webcreativity museum visitors are being encourages to share their own photos take in the exhibition or from their travels to national parks. You just need to tag George Eastman Museum on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hasthag #GEMparks and the museum will collect and share the photos in an album on its Facebook page.
