The Madrid Design Festival makes its debut Madrid is hosting the very first edition of the Madrid Design Festival from 1 to 28 February. The event is being held across the whole city and is turning the capital of Spain into an international design showcase for a whole month.

This month, design buffs have a new go-to place to add to their map of dedicated events: Madrid. The Madrid Design Festival is a new project by La Fábrica born with the goal of helping to democratise design, to get across the importance of this discipline that has the power to transform our lives each and every day, and to put Madrid - and Spain - on the international design map. An opportunity to promote the work of Spanish designers with an innovative format for the general public. Their vision ranges from product and industrial design to graphics, architecture, interior design and communication.
The Madrid Design Festival offers up a multidisciplinary programme to get across the ideas of leading designers, focusing specifically on young creatives and involving professionals, museums and institutions. The festival will feature exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, installations in the urban space, including a design lab in Plaza Santa María Soledad Torres Acosta. This meeting place was designed by Enorme Studio, in collaboration with MINI, a pop-up design and architecture office where workshops, conferences and meetings with designers take place.
The many offerings include the Official Association of Architects in Madrid (COAM), the festival's official location, hosting the exhibition of the 2018 Rado Star Prize Spain. This competition invites young designers to submit projects with a vision of the future that addresses the theme, Design meets time. The same Official Association of Architects in Madrid will also host the initiative called MadridDesignerPRO being held on 14, 15 and 16 February, with more than 100 hours of professional activities featuring 70-plus guests united by the common goal of “Redesigning the World”. Key standout participants include Rossana Orlandi and Daan Roosegaarde, just to name a couple.
Helsinki is one of the leading international design capitals, offering a range of activities as partner city and festival host. Bringing examples of Finnish design to Madrid.
So, from 1 to 28 February, Madrid will experience a month dedicated to design with locations spread across the whole city and creating strong ties with the territory - a real must for all design buffs and a great “warm-up” for the International Furniture Show running in Milan from 17 to 22 April.
