Exhibition New York New York 1984-2015, Jamil Molaeb

Jamil Molaeb will be exhibiting at the Janine Rubeiz art gallery in Beirut, Lebanon, from 13 January 2016. The exhibition focuses on his artworks centred on New York, where painting, woodcutting and architecture blend together.



“New York New York 1984-2015” is the exhibition by Lebanese artist, Jamil Molaeb at the Janine Rubeiz art gallery on the Corniche, the seaside promenade in the centre of Beirut, where the vernissage “Disorders in Beirut” took place a few months ago.





Molaeb was born in Lebanon in 1948 and has been artistically active since the 1970s; he holds a Master's degree from the Pratt Institute in New York and a PhD degree in Art Education from the University of Ohio. After his return from the USA in 1989, he became professor of art at the Lebanese American University and at the Institute of Fine Arts of the Lebanese University.





His artworks show a number of influences - from western art to ancient traditions from Egypt, Sumer and Babylon - resulting in oil paintings and woodcuts that range from bold colours to minimal black and white.



The “New York - New York 1984-2015” by Jamil Molaeb is open to visitors from 13 January to 5 February 2016 in the Janine Rubeiz gallery, celebrating the “Big Apple”. Large paintings where solid architectural forms stand out with such explosive power that they almost look like aerial views, and abstract symbols at the same time. An artistic vision with an expressionist power referencing one of the most iconic “cityscapes” in the world, which Livegreenblog and Floornature will shortly be exploring “live” for our readers.
