Massimo Imparato for “Local Cultures in Global Settings”

“Local Cultures in Global Settings” is an international contest promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group and its associated Foundation and organised by UAE Modern, drawing attention to creative contributions arising out of the interaction between expressions of identity and universalistic culture. We talked about it with Massimo Imparato, who, with Monica Mazzolani, co-founded UAE Modern, the cultural hub presenting the series of events accompanying the competition.

The Zikawei Library by Wutopia Lab in Shanghai

The story of the Zikawei Library in Shanghai is a tale of intelligent reuse, as the building was originally designed as a bookstore by David Chipperfield Architects. Immediately after the completion of the façade and the structure, it remained empty. However, at the city's will and thanks to the intervention of the Wutopia Lab studio, it has recently become the iconic public library of the Zikawei district.

Art to narrate transformation, Carlo Stanga for LAND

The spirit of the place, Dehesa Fields by Binom Architects

A venue that conveys a sense of its roots without falling into the common trap of clichés and sycophantic images: London-based Binom Architecture's interior design for the Dehesa Fields restaurant in Islington is a virtuous example of a design narrative that transcends these conceptual limits.
