Downtown Dream, award-winning interior design by Andrea Farr American interior designer Andrea Farr of Farr Interiors won the Grand Prize in the Design category of the prestigious 2018 Coverings Installation & Design (CID) Awards. Her Downtown Dream project drew inspiration from the Iris Ceramica Group Fiandre wide porcelain slabs for a really unique and eye-catching impact.

Downtown Dream is a residential space in downtown Milwaukee. It was a complete demolition of three adjoining high rise apartments redeveloped into a single, large luxury unit with a bold contemporary interior where the Iris Ceramica Group's standout materials made the project and controlled the overall end result.
The project by the interior designer Andrea Farr, owner of Farr Interiors, specialising in residential and commercial interiors with full build-out solutions was the Grand Prize winner of the 2018 CID Award: Design especially for her use of the wide porcelain slabs throughout the space to meet the wishes of her clients. The end result is an eclectic space that provides the perfect backdrop for the owner's life collection of artworks and design accessories where Farr either designed or selected the furniture as well as the surface coverings.
Andrea Farr was really taken with the porcelain slabs and used them to create the kitchen island and turn it into the central focal point of the space. The lightness of the slab meant it could also be used to cover the kitchen hood and extend down the backsplash walls with connected veining, which then carried through from room to room. The interior designer also used panels to create a particularly eye-catching, “piano-key” effect that runs down the hall and flows into the bathroom space and up the shower walls.
This versatility of the porcelain and its technical performance gave her the opportunity to craft a marble effect without all the negatives of the natural material. In the words of Andrea Farr: “The stone products we used from Iris Ceramica Group created the feeling of urban luxury the owners wanted to achieve, with a warmth that stone isn't always known for. The mixture of materials we were able to use throughout the unit on walls, countertops and flooring gave us the flexibility to incorporate truly unique design elements, using three different inimitable colour variations, and the interplay between glossy and matt surfaces created elegant details and fine connecting veins.
Federica Minozzi, CEO of Iris Ceramica Group also comments on this prestigious award. “We were pleased to work with Farr Interiors on the creation of this luxurious residential space, and honoured that it was chosen for the Grand Prize of the CID Awards program. Design awards such as this are truly important to the industry because they exemplify how beautiful product, design artistry and a high level of technical skill come together to create breathtaking architecture and design.”
