Brew Box Pad by Itay Friedman Architects in Berlin With Brew Box Pad, Itay Friedman Architects has refurbished a nondescript apartment in an old multi-family block in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Now it's a modern loft, because nothing is impossible when good design is applied.

How to reinvent a nondescript apartment and come up with a light-filled, eye-catching home? Just take a look at the latest work by architecture studio Itay Friedman Architects. A nondescript apartment in an old block in Berlin that has radically altered the idea and perception of the space, all to the benefit of modern needs.

In response to the client's brief for a home where he could live and work at the same time, the architects changed the apartment's layout, shifting the circulation and interiors to meet the new needs. So, the entryway has become the focal point and everything is accessed from here; the living room - with a glass door - can be divided and closed off to create a guest room when required, and the master bedroom is positioned to guarantee maximum privacy.

Another fundamental piece of this conversion lies in the choice of materials, which are perfectly in line with the totally contemporary look of a loft. Itay Friedman Architects used detailing like exposed bricks, customised timber inserts and “box in a box” storage like the built-in cupboards. Everything meeting the latest interior design trends.

And by replacing the windows, the architects have improved the energy performance of this home, with a concept based on a real “Brew Box” - the craft beer home-brewing kits.
And just like those kits, in the project by Itay Friedman Architects you've got all the creative ingredients you need to recover an old home, including its restrictions, elegantly measured here for a contemporary result inside a period box.
