Biennale di Venezia appoints Rem Koolhaas as director of the 2014 International Architecture Exhibition
OMA,
Architect Rem Koolhaas has been appointed by the Biennale di Venezia Board of Directors to direct the Architecture section and present the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in 2014.
Awarded a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Biennale Architettura 2010 and the Pritzker Prize in 2000, Rem Koolhaas founded OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) with Elia and Zoe Zenghelis and Madelon Vriesendorp. The Dutch architect works with OMA on projects all over the world and also works in non-architectural disciplines: politics, publishing, sociology, fashion, etc.
Rem Koolhaas?s comments on his appointment suggest what some of the themes of the Biennale di Architettura 2014 might be:
“We want to take a fresh look at the fundamental elements of architecture - used by any architect, anywhere, anytime ? to see if we can discover something new about architecture”.
