Wood,

A building inspired by its environment and by traditional Chinese paintings. Rough, minimal design makes the tea house a landmark that blends in with its surroundings, in continuity with the natural forms of the rocks around it.

Archiplein, Tianzhoushan Tea House

Rough, simple design. Natural architecture, a landmark in continuity with the irregular surfaces of the lake at the foot of Jiǔhuá Shān, a sacred mountain in Anhui province.
The tea house was designed by Archiplein, inspired by strong>traditional Chinese paintings in which objects are not represented as separate from the environment but blend with it in a whole so that the building is not the focal centre of the composition.

Use of wooden formworks to model the building, with its multi-faceted shape following the banks of the river, give the walls a rocky texture, eliminating the building’s visual impact on its environment.
Dozens of windows are sprinkled over the two floors of the tea house, providing natural lighting, while the restaurant and guesthouse offer shelter for visiting pilgrims.
